This edition consists of 57 short études/studies, 3 pages of scales and intervals, and 5 duets. As introduced here, composer/arranger Shelley Jagow aims to provide the intermediate level player with a comprehensive repertory of exercises, excerpts and melodies designed to progressively advance their musical skills.
The book includes key signatures up to four sharps/flats. The vast majority of the solo studies are a half-page long and go no higher than an upper clarion C6; six studies include altissimo D6 (and a couple more go to altissimo D-sharp6 and F6).
13 of the studies are composed by Shelley Jagow, and are designed to develop facility and tone, honing concepts like intonation, register slurs, rhythmic variations, chromatic and articulation. The scales and intervals are one-octave exercises, including key signatures up to four sharps/flats.
The rest of the book is arranged from a variety of composers covering the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century eras, and more than a dozen countries.
