From the composer:
'Rec(over)y, a sonata in three movements for bass clarinet and piano, is inspired by my personal experience with performance-related injury, which is something I've had to manage for the last seven years. The first movement, "Repetition/Tension," details the early stages of injury, with awkward, repeating motives and building tension throughout. The second movement, "Rest," features a repeated harmonic progression in the piano that moves between different key centers. The mood is calm and peaceful at first, but quickly becomes more frustrating, with the concern of not being able to play again becoming more present as the piece progresses. The final movement, "Reinvigoration," details a joyful return to playing and loosely follows the form of a rondo.'
