Book 2From the composer:
"The following volumes of "Intervallic Permutations" are designed to create heavy demands on the clarinetist's technique and his powers of concentration.
Although the following patterns may appear difficult at first, with meticulous, diligent practice they soon become as comfortable as the more familiar major, minor, seventh and diminished seventh patterns.
Simply playing through the "Permutations" one after another until becoming tired or bored will accomplish little. Their value is realized when two or three exercises are "worked" each day, slowly at first, then, faster as they become more comfortable. Of course, the exercises which are immediately comfortable require little work. The "Permutations" are more easily mastered with use of a metronome.
The exercises are best practiced as written and then by utilizing [varying] articulations; they should also be repeated playing them forte the first time and piano the second time..."
