From the composer:
"This work is inspired by the glitchy sounds & gestures of vintage video game soundtracks from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Nintendo Game Boy consoles, reminiscent of a main character's endgame battle with the final boss. It was composed with the use of guitar effect pedals in mind, though the written effects may also be achieved through the use of live audio processing software such as Ableton. It is recommended that this piece be performed by someone experienced with electracoustic performance, as it requires numerous different effect changes throughout the score.
The primary effects used in this work include distortion, delay, looping, and pitch shifting ( 8vb). For those utilizing effect pedals, a volume pedal is needed at the beginning of the signal chain to fade in and out of these sounds by controlling how much of the clarinet's sound signal enters the chain. Modulation ( ex. flanger) is a secondary optional effect, should the player desire to add texture to the solo lines over recorded loops.
[...]
Different effects may be used, as long as the performance stays true to the composer's intent. Refer to the performance and walkthrough videos [on the Listen tab] as a sound guide for all written effects."
