From Barrett's 2020 album liner notes (New Focus Recordings FCR276):
' The title of this piece, according to Dominique Lemaître, alludes to the Egyptian god of scribes, but suggestions of immensity (the sand) and eternity are equally present, doubtless influenced by the work of Edmond Jabès. Thoth is a creator god, linked to the Moon, the nocturnal double of the Sun. He is also the master of writing, medicine, and liturgy. He is the divine record-keeper of the relationships between beings and things. “Thoth, thou sweet fountain for one who thirsteth in the desert! It is sealed for one who talketh, but it open for one who is quiet!” '
