"Despite its short duration (ca 1'20"), The Peacock Moment holds a central place in my worklist. The prime-number series that I first used when composing Close Ups, is also used here, boiled down to one voice—a voice that because of the structure of the tone material sounds like multiple voices."

"In 1988 Anders Hillborg composed the concerto Peacock Tales for me. The Peacock Moment is the embryo of this concerto: Hillborg had discovered a kind of echo effect which he found intoxicating, and which then mushroomed into a huge, 32-minute monodrama for clarinet and orchestra. The miniature format of The Peacock Moment gives me the opportunity to introduce the audience to the complete work in the form of an encore."
