This edition consists of a wind quintet arrangement of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The clarinet part is scored for B-flat Clarinet, but a little over half of the part has a double-staff configuration for either A Clarinet (recommended) or B-flat Clarinet. Joachim Linckelmann manages the remarkable achievement of an almost entirely unabridged adaptation, aside from two passages for solo piano.
There are four points where omissions occur in the arrangement: bar 226 (and, the following mm. 226-231 are slightly simplified compared to what appears in Grofé's 1942 orchestration), bar 252, bar 300, and bar 308. These remove approximately 1.75 minutes from Grofé's 1942 orchestration, making for a duration of about 14 minutes.
The arranger also offers a further abridged version by means of two optional cuts in the arrangement: bars 30-65 and bars 181-232, which remove about 1.5 minutes and 2.25 minutes, respectively. Taking both cuts brings the total duration to about 10.25 minutes. -
