From the preface:
"Grey-headed lovebirds are adorable little pet parakeets, with bright colors and shiny plumage.
Their French name, 'Inséparable,' is derived from the fact that these birds usually live in extremely close pairs. It is widely believed that if one bird dies, the other will...
Hence the idea of a musical piece full of tenderness, surprises, and twists and turns, similar to the life of two people who love each other and who cannot help but quarrel at times, but who soon make up and remain together for the rest of their lives.
The music is in turns cajoling, mercurial, cuddly, testy, teasing, doleful, impetuous...The two E-flat clarinets are an unusual line-up, but prove ideal for competing in virtuosity, poetic sense and humor.
A subtle nod to Francis Poulenc can be detected in certain episodes.
The present edition allows the performers to choose the scenography that suits them, either side by side with a single score and appropriate page-turns, or one opposite the other, or even in an elaborate spatialisation showcasing the separate parts."
