From the composer:
"The Romani are a traditional nomadic people originating from the northern Indian subcontinent; they have disseminated widely across the globe but their greatest concentration is throughout Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. They are well known for their distinctive music and dance, and the style and performance practices of Romani musicians have had wide influence on European classical composers including Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms, as well as the popular idioms of jazz, bolero and flamenco. In Italy, the Romani are known as Zingaro or Zingara, depending on gender. Danza Zingara captures the excitement and energy of the traditional female Romani dance and pays homage to the influence this nomadic culture has had on the world. Danza Zingara was written for my daughter, McKenzie Campo, on the occasion of her senior clarinet recital."
