The order and combination of the components proposed by the score: pitches, durations, intensities, sound qualities, attacks and phrasing, will be freely chosen on the spur of the moment. The decisions of the players depend on a steady musical interplay and some almost imperceptible signals.The clarinet part includes a central stave of pitches and a circular diagram of phrases, durations and nuances to articulate them. The clarinetist starts reading the central material from a note of their own choice and goes on normally, from left to right, returning da capo as often as necessary.
The articulations of the circular diagram-sound-groups (phrasing), longer or shorter durations, nuances—will be applied to this raw material. The simultaneous reading of the circular diagram also starts from a freely chosen element and proceeds clockwise following the large arrows. The circle shall be run through at least one and a half times. During the first run, the player will apply the intensities inscribed on top of the elements, and during the second, those inscribed below.
The partner (percussionist or pianist), besides joining in with suitable elements of their own choice, must supply the clarinetist, at precise moments of the latter's score, with initial (consonants) or final (punctuations) attacks as well as with connections or knots placed in the middle of a phrase; these occur at the barely perceptible signals of the clarinetist.
