Anna Vinnitsky's Spring of 2020 is dedicated to the #TakeTwoKnees movement initiated by clarinettist Anthony McGill. The composer writes:
"The four movements of the piece- March, April, May and June portray feelings evoked by the global apocalypse. April and May agony of COVID-19 comes in contrast to the fierce emotional outburst of George Floyd protests in June, the last movement of the piece. The music takes the listener on a journey of an individual going through personal transformation from mindless rat-race into unbearable stillness and helplessness to finding the true power of the individual voice that is capable of changing reality and making a difference. The themes of this piece stand in solidarity with all those who lost a piece of their heart in the last four months, and all of those whose leadership inspires us to embrace the winds of change and to contribute to the greater good."
