From the composer:
"Nadia is not just the heroine of this story, but also a real cat - companion for over 13 years to the composer Maddy Aldis-Evans. In the story she is a witch's cat who meets a rather clumsy dragon called Hubertus, and all manner of chaos occurs. The Witch's Cat Who Lost Her Spells, like most fairy stories, contains a moral message: in this case of tolerance and acceptance of others, despite outward appearances. [...] The five instruments of the wind quintet each represent one of the characters in the story; the flute playing Nadia, the oboe and clarinet the witch, Hubertus being represented by the bassoon. The horn plays one of the spells that escapes from the pouch around Nadia's neck. The musicians do not just provide a musical accompaniment to the story, which is told by a narrator, but also take part in the story-telling themselves. The piece has a duration of around 30 minutes and is suitable for children of primary school age. Some audience participation is also required."
