  • From commissioner and compiler: Joshua Anderson:

"New 32 is a contemporary addition to clarinet pedagogy, offering a collection of 32 etudes composed by 16 of today's leading composers. Inspired by the foundational Rose 32 Etudes, this collection follows the same sequence of keys established by Cyrille Rose, while reimagining the etudes for the demands and possibilities of the 21st century. Each composer contributed two etudes per key: one slow and reflective, and the other fast and spirited. Together, they create a varied and engaging exploration of styles, moods, and technical challenges.

Designed for clarinetists at different stages of development, New 32 provides valuable material for intermediate players working on foundational skills as well as advanced musicians seeking fresh technical and interpretive challenges. These etudes delve into a wide range of musical and technical elements, from lyrical phrasing and tonal refinement to intricate rhythms and virtuosic passages.

To support learning and performance, the collection includes commentary by me. For each etude, I offer insights, preparation strategies, and practical advice to help clarinetists approach technical hurdles, interpret stylistic details, and unlock the full expressive potential of the music."
